Be Part

Participation in social engagement is defined as strengthening and constructing social capital and norms. Usually, this entails action (doing something), communication (at least two individuals must participate), and interpersonal connection (giving or receiving something from others). When participants actively participate in the deliberations, discussions, decision-making, and/or implementation of projects or programs that directly touch them, it is said that the participants are “engaged.” As a result, organizational and governmental leaders need to enlarge their view of their roles to include those of facilitator, supporter, collaborator, and agent of empowerment for stakeholders and citizens. This change suggests reconsidering some of the old reins of control and believing that citizens can and will engage in the issues successfully. The nation needs young people who are socially conscious, ready to take charge of their destiny, and eager to leave their mark on the world they are working to shape.
