Artist Biography

“RoyRoy” as often called by his family and friends was born in Brgy. Mabunao, Panabo City, Davao del Norte on December 19, 1985. The first child of the two children of Cero B. Gulayan, Sr. and Trely C. Libunao-Gulayan.

During elementary days it was normal for kids like RoyRoy to engage in doodles and drawings. He was good at this until he suffered an illness that caused him to become physically impaired. He thought it was the end of his life.  However, that tragic experience triggered more his love and passion for art. He accepted his fate but lived a renewed life.

He had a near death experience with his disease after elementary wherein it took him 3 years to totally recuperate before he started high school. Painting was his way of positively recovering from his illness, to relieve him of his depression and anxiety.  He looks at painting as pure passion. He paints purely for the joy of creating something worthy of an audience. It is your reward if someone buys your painting.

As an artist, he wants to inspire others and continue exploring, learning, and improving his craft. He constantly participates in various art competitions and art exhibitions to further hone his career. He is also a recent member of the Grupo ng mga Aktibong Mindanawon Artists (GAMA) and Davao Watercolor Society (DWS). His inspirations are God the Almighty, family, and friends.
